Cowichan
Valley, "the warm land."
If you are seeking to experience
British Columbia's natural heritage,
the Cowichan Valley offers a land of
unexpected treasures.
History, arts, culture and
conservation are important in the
Cowichan area. |
If you like shops,
galleries, and artisans’ studios, you’ll
be happy to find one or more in every
community, since Vancouver Island boasts the
highest concentration of artisans in all of
Canada.
The Cowichan area is located in Canada's
only Maritime - Mediterranean climatic zone,
resulting in the warmest mean year round
temperature anywhere in Canada. Originally
named The Warm Land by the first nations
peoples, the Cowichan Region offers one of
Canada's finest climates.
The Cowichan Valley has long been known
as a recreational playground. Fresh and
saltwater fishing, from trout to crabs, are
the best that British Columbia can offer.
Seafood is a main ingredient of the
excellent regional cuisine found in the
region's many restaurants.
The Cowichan River is a world class
fly-fishing haven. Boating pleasures are
found on the larger of the Cowichan lakes
while the sheltered bays along the coastline
give sanctuary to both sail and pleasure
craft. Hiking is available in all of the
region's spectacular parks.
Cowichan’s greatest treasure, however,
is its people. As warm and welcoming as the
land itself, residents here are willing and
ready to share their secret destinations
with visitors.
